The Difference Between Neodymium and Ferrite magnets
|
There are many kinds of rare earth magnets, and different materials have different applications. This article briefly discusses the difference between Neodymium and Ferrite.
Neodymium(NdFeB) magnetic material is an alloy of neodymium and iron oxide, etc. It is the latest result of the development of rare earth permanent magnet materials, and is called "magnetic king" because of its excellent magnetic properties.
Ferrite is a non-metallic magnetic material and a ferromagnetic metal oxide.Ferrite has high dielectric properties, and its resistivity is much larger than that of metal and alloy magnetic materials. And ferrite has high permeability at high frequency, so it has become a nonmetallic magnetic material with wide application in the field of high frequency but weak current.
The differences between ferrite magnets and neodymium magnet magnets are as follows:
1. Differences in Magnetism
Neodymium magnet is more magnetic than ferrite. In the naked magnetic state, the magnetic force of neodymium can reach about 3500 gauss. With the advantage of high energy density, NdFeB has been widely used in modern industry and electronic technology, thus making it possible to miniaturize and thin instruments, electro-acoustic motors, magnetic separation and magnetization, etc. And ferrite has a weak magnetic force, usually 800-1000 gauss.
2.Differences in Stability
is an oxide and very stable. NdFeB is an alloy, which is easily oxidized and can't work at more than 80 degrees. If it exceeds this working temperature, demagnetization will occur.
3.Differences in Price
In terms of price, ferrite is much cheaper than neodymium magnet.Because neodymium is easily oxidized, it must be improved by adjusting its chemical composition and adopting surface treatment methods to meet the requirements of practical application. This is also one of the reasons for the high price of neodymium.
4.Differences in Application
Neodymium is mainly used in printing and packaging, electronics, electrical appliances, mining equipment and other fields. For example, it is widely used in voice coil motors, engines, motors, magnetic resonance imaging devices, communications, control instruments, audio equipment and so on. Ferrite is mainly used in large machinery. For example, it is widely used in broadcasting, computing, automatic control, radar navigation, space navigation, instrument measurement, printing, pollution treatment, biomedicine, high-speed transportation and so on.
To sum up, Ferrite is cheap and has good temperature resistance, but its magnetism is very weak; Neodymium magnet has high performance, stability, strong magnetism, wide application, but low temperature resistance.
